Sony Pictures Talks to Deadline, Murray Still a Spectre

Lazy update time, from Deadline: "I’m told that the studio isn’t going to make it without Bill Murray. And as recently as last month, he had not read the script, or if he did, he has not reached out to get the dealmaking started."

  1. look, the reality is that Bill Murray is avoidant about the film idea because the second film was a disappointment in terms of structure and impact, and he admits this completely. He obviously wants to be respected for all his work as an actor, not just typecast as a famous face from the Ghostbusters franchise.

While the first movie is a minor classic, is very well made and has lots of improvisation and originality etc, its pretty obvious, when you look at the act I, II, III shape of the film that its the story of 'the Ghostbusters', not some youth-orientated good-vs-evil fantasy franchise that was ever intended to be respun, reiterated and refranchised over decades.

I seriously think the main reason Bill Murray hasn't committed to the film is because he's got other work to do, and also has a lot of family commitments, but the idea of a third GB film could be lucrative, based on past ticket sales, and the recent computer game or whatever.
