Murray Not Giving Up the Ghost: "It's Hard", "We'll Try Again"
Takeaway: Aykroyd didn't think Murray would do it and Murray isn't entirely impressed with what he saw in the script he was sent. Still he is reluctant as hell to rule out GB3 altogether at this point. There's an internal struggle within him (he makes a lot of faces at the canned applause) that is clear to see when Dave asks for a definitive answer.
Instead of a "no" (which I reiterate will release me from this torture that is updating you on GB3 news) he states his high standard of funny, implies the script he was sent wasn't up to par and says "we'll try again", admitting that he is the hold up and talking about how hard it is to make it good/funny. So, rewrites it is then!
Quotables to over think:
"You just have to have a really good script, you know, it's hard" So if he gets one he's in then?
"Its hard to make a sequel, its gotta be really funny and that first one was so darn funny that... it's hard..." I don't think he blames anyone for not getting it right. I mean it IS hard!
"I think, you know, we'll try again. I always dragged my feet on it but I think if you could get that..." Aware he's the hold up, but willing to throw a "but" in there... sounds like he's for it, if its good!
Curious that when Dan Aykroyd finally admitted that Murray was not in GB3, Bill himself in two interviews lights up about the movie saying that he could make it.
One thing: he use the word WE. He's not saying "they're trying..." or "the studio wants it". He include himself in the GB creative force behind the movie.
But...it is a "we'll try again....to have a good script" or "we'll try again...to do a Gb sequel"?
This is at least better insight on what exactly is happening for the hold up.
