At a Crystal Head signing in Ottawa, Dan Aykroyd got grilled by a fan asking the questions we're dying the know the answer to. Interesting responses were afoot...
On Murray's comments about hoping for a good third script...
D.A.: "Billy had Stay Puft at the film festival, he's confusing us all! Uh well, I pray and hope... I think... now-I guess its gonna depend how the script does. I pray... that he's in."
The fan then asked if two versions of the script were being developed, one with and one without Bill Murray. (GREAT QUESTION). Aykroyd dodged.
D.A.: "Well, they're working on it now... I've seen some pages and I've done a few changes and, uh, I feel more optimistic than ever. I can't answer any specific questions about plot, though."
Aykroyd went on to welcome an on-set interview, hinted that some filming might take place in Canada (often a stand-in for New York streets) and said that he would be reaching out to the fan community when the time comes.
Analysis: At this point, anything could happen. Let's hope for a great script. Also of note, we've now surpassed last year's post total on the subject of Ghostbusters 3, and it is only September. A fantastic sign that the project has sprung back to life.
