Aykroyd Shares Some Character Deets on the Next Gen of GBs

The Ottawa Citizen spoke with Dan Aykroyd and got some tidbits of interest out of the guy. Ghostbusters III has a new timeline for development. Potential pre-production in the fall, hopes to shoot next year. That has changed every six months for the past 4 years, so no crazy news to report there.

The latest on Murray, no movement on securing him but as always, there's always a place for him in the story should he want to jump on board. Isn't that nice?

Then we got some cool new stuff.  Aykroyd: "Right now we want to focus on the new generation of Ghostbusters, the new students at Columbia (University) studying particle physics, that’s where we’re going to go with the story.”

The coolest (ok the only cool) parts of Aykroyd's early drafts for Ghostbusters 3 (you can read some here) were the "glueball" particle experiments he and Egon were running. Just this week the Boson Higgs "god particle" has been making news and the ideas are very contemporary and Ghostbusters at the same time. Let's not forget that Aykroyd included a proton pack blast called the "Boson Dart" in the Ghostbusters Video Game.

That last script played with the idea of nixing a containment unit and instead bending particles to send ghosts back into the dimension they came from. Cool movie fodder, ripe for surprises, if they go for it.
