Is the Murricane Changing Course?

The Good: Dan Aykroyd is still reviewing Etan Cohen (Men in Black III) script drafts for "Ghosbusters 3". He will be taking a look at some pages "in the next couple of weeks" according to his recent interview with "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight". GB3 is not dead as we pass 3 months since Dan Aykroyd laid down an ultimatum over his involvement. One month to go if he was serious about that.

The Confusing: Dan says he is trying to get Bill Murray to call him back, dropping this unexpected bit: "Billy's expressed an interest in perhaps looking at something." He doubles back on that quote plenty though, so Aykroyd isn't sure of anything. "I really don't know what I'm gonna see there" Dan told Stroumboulopoulos, "it's hard to say with Murray." Aykroyd muses further that the "Murricane" is always unpredictable and goes on to recant Murray's status as someone who has already done the character a few times and understandably is on to new, prestigious roles.

This is interesting because in an interview with "The Sunday Times" in January, Murray referred to a script from a couple of years ago as the one he was not so keen on. That would have been the Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupinsky draft in 2010 or 2011. Since that version is being scrapped or being majorly overhauled, from what it seems here, Aykroyd may be keen on having Murray look at Etan Cohen's new script for a second opinion.

Do you think the Murricane will be downgraded to a Tropibill Storm? Watch the interview for yourself:

GB Props to Davide Passaia for yet another timely tip!

  2. I'd like to think that since Eisenberg and Stupnitsky are no longer writing, that perhaps Bill will give the new script a little more consideration. He seemed to sour on them rather quickly after Year One. But that's likely just wishful thinking on my part.
