Ok, maybe not, but Dan Aykroyd has said that he can feel Harold's influence in spirit as he writes the third film. Aykroyd talked to Vancouver's BT morning show today, his first chat with the media since Harold Ramis' death, and the Ghostbusters creator brought up the topic of Ghostbusters III without much prodding, after being asked about what Harold's greatest legacy was...
Aykroyd: I think his spirit of collaboration and his feeling of encouragement to fellow artists. He was very generous, brilliant... wise. Ghostbusters would have not been the film it was without Harold and I will miss him now in my collaboration now on Ghostbusters III.
Aykroyd: But you know what? I sit there and I'm writing on the script now and... I hear Harold, not so much a psychic voice but more of a kind of a muse that's like 'well Harold wouldn't say that, no he would correct this, no he wouldn't have the character say this, no he'd make this, he'd bump this up a bit, he'd move this scene here', you know? I kind of feel I know, because we did the first two scripts together, I know what he would do with this, a third script, and thankfully we had a lot of his input before he died, on the third script, so it will have a lot of his essence in there.
Aykroyd: This is the second writing partner, I lost Tom Davis, Harold... so I guess the lesson is, don't write with me.
BT: How do you truely remake a classic movie for a new generation?
Aykroyd: You don't remake it, you make a new one. Think Star Trek, hand it to the next generation... just push it off like a fledgling bird and just let it fly on its own.You can watch the entire Breakfast Television segment here.
Every time Aykroyd speaks he says something to the effect of, "We're currently working on the script." Every time. For years and years. If it's that difficult, Dan... Just. Leave. It. It's not rocket science. It's a fun, scary blockbuster. How many drafts now? 40? Better be the best damn script ever seen by this stage.
ReplyDeleteAnd, technically, the recent Star Treks have been a reboot & a remake, so not a great comparison there. Unless he's talking about Next Generation or something...?
