Ghostbusters 3 producer Ivan Reitman continues to make headlines by talking about the third film, dropping some crucial production information. First off, the film probably won't be called "Ghostbusters 3", but don't confuse that with any thoughts that this next movie might be a reboot...
Reitman: “Certainly there’s been a lot of talk about doing Ghostbusters 3 in 3D as well, and I don’t think we’ll call it Ghostbusters 3 either. It’s not a reboot, it just lives in a world where the first two movies did occur and those characters were there and at least some of them will be in this film, but it’s really a different story.”On the topic of using CGI, Reitman sounded like it will likely be used over all-practical effects.
Reitman: "The second one actually had CGI in it. The first one didn’t, was all old school stuff. I think the opportunities are great because the world of special effects keeps evolving and greater things are possible.”Check the Crave Online interview for even more, including a "no comment" on female Ghostbusters this go-around and a confirmation that Harold Ramis was slated for a cameo before his death.
What subtitle would you accept for a third Ghostbusters film? We're partial to "Total Containment", from the IDW comics. Something that pulls from established Ghostbusters lingo would be good by us. Meanwhile... do we have to change our blog's name? We kind of like it.
Thanks for the tip, Davide!
“It’s not a reboot,” Reitman says. “We’re not telling that story again or (exploring) the formation of the Ghostbusters. This is a later chapter in New York where the services of Ghostbusters are needed. The original Ghostbusters who are around now will play roles, but they are relatively minor roles. It’s a story that plays into the lore and tradition of the original movies. I think it’ll be very satisfying to Ghostbuster fans.”

I still kinda like Ghostbusters III myself. That will inform the world truly this is no remake and (for better or for worse) give the biggest possible statement of "We're Back!" (to quote Ghostbusters II's tagline) for the first time since 1989. It's all very epic despite the chances of the previous cast being reduced. Calling it something like "The Next Generation" will just sound daft and smack of "buy this new, unrelated franchise please".
