Geez, I can't go away for a second. Fine, here we go, huge Ghostbusters re-quel news.
According to an agency breakdown obtained by TheWrap, there are 5 main roles to cast in the next Ghostbusters film.
Two are young men who will be aged 23-29 (skewing 10 years younger than the original GBs). It is likely that they'll be recent college graduates or grad students themselves, per Aykroyd's musings on the script. Jeremy is the young leader. Chris is said to be the son of Peter Venkman.
There is a female lead by the name of "Dr. Anna" who is said to be a few years older (in her 30s?) and like the original Ghostbusters, is a real doctor.
The fourth lead is an older male named Eean (quite the Egon-esque name, eh) who will likely serve as the film's comic relief.
The final role is a villain named Eniewko. The closest name I can find to this online is Gniewko, which is Polish in origin. There's a story attached to the name about a young noble knight, son of a fisherman, who faithfully served the king and the country in the 1300s. This might have nothing to do with Eniewko, though.
Analysis: When Aykroyd mentioned that the new Ghostbusters would be grad students, a set of hip/young Ghostbusters came to mind. Learning that half the cast will be younger, half older, is a relief. The original gang was aged mid-late 30s, and this group now has more potential to fit that slot.
GB3 Blog Dream Cast Picks: Donald Glover as Jeremy (the young leader), Bill Hader as Eean (the older comic relief) and Kate McKinnon as Dr. Anna (a doctor in her 30s). The hardest to cast is a 20-something son of Bill Murray. The best bet might be to pick a new SNL member to carry Murray's torch. Beck Bennet is 29 and has had breakout moments over the last year. Perhaps he should have a shot.
Thanks to Andreas for the tip!
