Harold Ramis: Ghostbuster, Actor and Director Has Died at Age 69

Such incredibly sad news today for friends, family and Ghostbusters community members. Harold Ramis, best known as a Ghostbusters co-writer and the actor who portrayed Egon Spengler in both films and the video game has passed away at the age of 69.

According to the Chicago Tribune: "Ramis’ serious health struggles began in May 2010 with an infection that led to complications related to the autoimmune disease, his wife said. Ramis had to relearn to walk but suffered a relapse of the vaculitis in late 2011, said Laurel Ward, vice president of development at Ramis’ Ocean Pictures production company."

This would explain why we have not seen much of Ramis in the public eye as of late.

More details as they come in, until then, it was nice working with you, Dr. Spengler. We'll see you on the other side.

UPDATE: Dan Aykroyd, Billy Crystal and others on losing Harold Ramis.

  1. Man, this has really brought me down this week, and I'm very sorry to hear that he passed in the way he did. As a lifelong fan, I just wanted to do my small part and say a few kind words:

As a kid, he was instantly cool to me because he was a Ghostbuster. That whole universe captured my imagination and inspired me to be creative from a young age. Once I got older (and more aware of writers and directors), I became an even bigger fan of his due to his versatile body of work in comedy. Animal House, Vacation, Groundhog Day, and others... not just successful films, but ones that truly stand the test of time. I never had the chance to meet him, but he seemed like a very honest, humble man. I always found his insight about Hollywood and his own career very refreshing.

Thank you, Mr. Ramis, for an amazing career.
