Writer of That Other Ghostbusters Movie is Pulling for a Single Universe

Hello readers, been a while, eh? So there have been back-and-forth rumors over the last year that Channing Tatum, the Russos and writer Drew Pearce were working on another film idea within the Ghostbusters universe. Recently Tatum's producer called the project "too complicated" and said "we're not doing that anymore", but today MTV has an interview with the writer who gave a big "OH YEAH" in response to whether or not the project was still happening.

So why do we care over here at the Ghostbusters III blog? Mightn't said film be building upon Paul Feig's new universe?  In order to focus on his own film, Feig has given little thought of Sony's brewing Ghostbusters universe plans, which may mean a totally different direction for the Russo-Pearce version namely the inclusion of the original world where Marshmallow Men and Terror Dogs once roamed the streets of New York!

Choice quote:
"My personal inclination is to try and make everything occur in the same Ghostbusters universe, because I feel, as a fan, that’s what I would want. Standing here in New York, you just wanna tie it all together. Whether that happens or not we’ll see, but I’ve certainly given them the tools to do that, I hope."

We are dealing with a franchise where other dimensions are already a huge part of the lore. Pearce's well-received script for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation has made his name hot. The loss of Tatum on the project could give way for more traditional SNL/UCB/Groundlings type talent to star. Not a bad scenario for a true sequel. We will keep tabs as things develop.

Sony, take your new franchise, take the old franchise and do us a favor. CROSS THE STREAMS.
